Carbon based nanoelectromechanics

In this presentation, the electromechanical properties of carbon based low dimensional nanostructures will be discussed. Among carbon based structures, the carbon nanotubes and the graphene layers were chosen for the main materials our studies. The first part of the presentation will be covered with electromechanical and a possible application of carbon nanotubes. Carbon nanotube based nanorelay and its electromechanical measurement results and their applications will be introduced at first. A new concept of non-volatile memory based on the carbon nanotube field effect transistor together with microelectromechanical switch will be introduced. Recent progress on the graphene based nano structures of our group will be introduced in the second part of the presentation. Recently developed contact transfer printing method enables us to make graphene based devices in a controllable manner. A graphene xylophone structure which is composed of array of graphene resonators is suggested for its RF applications. A few novel device structures such as carbon nanotube field effect transistor combined with suspended graphene gate and artificially twisted bilayer graphene based electronic devices will be presented in the end of the presentation.
