– 제목: Ultrafast dynamic phenomena in strongly electron-correlated materials investigated at PAL-XFEL

 

– 초록:
X-ray free electron laser (XFEL) is a new generation of x-ray radiation source that opens a
gateway to ultrafast dynamic phenomena in materials. This source has extensively
contributed to emergence of the new sciences in concert with rapidly developing XFEL
experimental techniques based on three key features compared with synchrotron x-ray
radiation source: 1) high brightness (>10 8 times), 2) short x-ray pulse (<10 -4 times), and 3)
long coherence length (>10 2 times). PAL-XFEL in South Korea is the third hard x-ray free
electron laser in the world and has started the user service since 2017. Its remarkable x-ray
beam stability with small timing and pointing jitters provides optimized experimental
conditions for optical laser pump and XFEL probe experiment. This pump-probe scheme
allows one to access in the time domain, intriguing coupled/decoupled nature among physical
degrees of freedom (e.g. lattice, spin, orbital, and charge) in strongly electron-correlated
materials. In this seminar, recent research activities at PAL-XFEL focusing on dynamics of
crystal and magnetic structures will be introduced.
