Functionalization of Carbon Nanostructures and its Applications
Carbon nanostructures, including carbon nanotubes and graphene, have attracted tremendous attention due to their interesting physical properties as well as their great potential for various applications. Since the surface of carbon nanostructures is nearly inert its functionalization is necessary in order to increase its reactivity with other components in many applications. Especially, making stable solutions or suspensions of carbon nanostructures in water is essential for biological applications. In this talk, functionalization of carbon nanotubes and graphene will be summarized with the emphasis on biocompatible functionalization, and recent development in the field of biosensors based on carbon nanostructures will be discussed.
