제목: nanoARPES and 4th Generation Synchrotron Radiation in Korea

 

초록: Angle-Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy (ARPES) is one of the most powerful techniques for exploring the electronic structure of materials. Electronic structure is defined in momentum space, which is highly abstract and not directly observable. ARPES overcomes this by directly visualizing how electrons occupy energy and momentum states, turning non-intuitive quantum information into images that can be understood and interpreted. This ability has made ARPES a cornerstone of modern condensed matter physics, providing insights into superconductivity, magnetism, and topological materials.

A recent development, nanoARPES, extends this capability by focusing the photon beam to sub-micron sizes, allowing spatially resolved measurements. This enables researchers to study inhomogeneous systems such as exfoliated two-dimensional crystals, twisted multilayers, and nanoscale devices.

In this talk, I will introduce the basic principles of ARPES, highlight its unique role in visualizing electronic structures, and present the development plan for the new nanoARPES beamline at Korea’s 4th generation synchrotron.
